Cassie's Story
For all that know Cassandra Williams aka Cassie aka Godslawyah is to love her. Cassie is from Compton, CA and was raised by her mother and father, Angela and Jimmy Williams and is the eldest sibling to her younger brother Ghana. Cassie did very well in school and went on to graduate from University of California, Riverside; then furthered her education to graduate from Law School, passing the Bar Exam after only one try. She was a successful attorney who just loved helping people. Cassie is a single mother to Bryana aka "Bry" (pictured above). She would take Bry every where with her, even to law school at night. She worked hard and did all she could to make sure her daughter had the best and grew up knowing she had a mother who loved and cared for her. Cassie is a strong, loving, caring and faithful person. She loves God, loves people, always willing to help, support, and encourage anyone who may need it.
Many of you have been following her journey as she has been battling cancer. She was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma about 17 years ago. For many years it was in remission operating at no more than 10%. After Cassie, Bry and the family cared for her mother, Angela, during hospice for 3 months and then her passing away in January 2009; Cassie's cancer increased to Stage 4 in April 2009. That was one of the most difficult moments in Cassie's life. Not only was her dad gone, but now her mother had passed as well, so now she had to figure out the process of fighting for her own life.
It has now been 6 years since Cassie was diagnosed with stage 4 Multiple Myeloma. She is still fighting the good fight of faith. Many have been inspired by her journey through Facebook, her cancer support group (Living Beauty Foundation), her marathon group and many more. She has never given up even after: multiple chemo treatments, radiation treatments, 2 bone marrow transplants, hundreds of doctor appointments, multiple hospital admissions and multiple times the doctor telling her she will never be cured from this disease. She may have shed a few tears, has laid on the couch for days at a time, she has walked with her cane, crutches or limped through her day, she has taken her pain pills everyday just to get through the day, but overall she never gave up and is still here!
April 22, 2015 Cassie's journey has taken another turn. On this day she went for her regular doctor visit with her daughter and was supposed to receive chemo treatment that day. When Bry got her to the hospital, she had a very high fever, she was in a delusional state and very weak. At this point she had already lost over 20 pounds and been having many ups and downs. Her doctor admitted her into the hospital that day. Since April 22, Cassie remains in the hospital today. After 90 days in 4 different locations, being on antibiotics, fighting pneumonia and still trying to battle the cancer she still continues to fight. She currently is fighting yet another battle in her journey. Her kidney is not functioning where it should be, left lung has collapsed, fluid building up in her body, memory lost, over 50 pounds lost, no appetite and oxygen to assist her with her breathing; yet she hasn't and won't give up.
Current update: Cassie passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 8:20am. She fought hard to hang on and as she is missed by many family and friends, but especially by her only child, Bry; she is never forgotten because of the impact she has made on so many peoples lives. Our angel is now gone home to be with our Lord!
